The past

Over the past years, medical advances have helped pets live longer & healthier. The changing face of veterinary preventive medicine is seen as follows:

• Infection: (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, kennel cough, feline influenza, leukemia & rabies) has been largely contained by vaccinations.
• Parasites: both internal (roundworm, tapeworm, hookworm, protozoan) & external (ticks, fleas, lice, etc), some of which are transferable to people, are controlled by simple combination medications.
• Trauma cases: (motor vehicle accidents, hard & soft tissue injuries, bite wounds) are now minimized by urbanization (spay/neuter programs, leash laws, pet identification [tattoos & microchips])
• Nutritional disorders: (bladder stones in cats and dogs, some heart disorders in cats) are now ameliorated or avoided with new diets.
