Complete Parasite Control
Because we love our pets we are close to them. For our health, that of our children and that of our pets themselves, it is important that our pets are free from transmissible diseases such as parasites.
External parasites
Such as ticks, fleas, lice, mites and mosquitoes can cause serious health problems. Fortunately the advent of modern pharmaceuticals that are safe, effective and easy to use have simplified parasite control enormously in the last decade.
For flea treatment we use Revolution; a topical liquid applied to the pets skin along it’s back monthly. It also helps to treat and prevent infection of roundworms, hookworms, mites and ticks.
Internal parasites
It is common for pets to be born with worms and some can transmit to people. We recommend either bringing a sample of the pet’s stool for microscopic examination to determine the presence, abundance and type of parasite, or treat routinely for Roundworm as a public health measure.
“A recent report (2008) from the Centre for Disease Control says that 14% of the U.S. population is positive for roundworms.”
Medications are oral or injectable and include Pyrantel, Droncit, Drontal, Heartguard, Interceptor, etc.
Internal and external parasites
Combination products have really improved the safety and compliance of parasite control:
- Sentinel: A tablet given orally once per month.
- Revolution & Advantage Multi (along with others in the USA): Topical agents applied to the pet’s skin monthly.
